PHOENIX, AZ (WINA) – Former UVa standout defensive back Ronde Barber was named to the Pro Football Hall of Fame Thursday night at the NFL Honors events held in Phoenix. The only player with more than 40 interceptions and 25 sacks in his NFL career, Barber is a Tampa Bay Buccaneers’ legend. He is the franchise’s all-time leader in interceptions — with 47 — and defensive touchdowns (12) after spending the entirety of his 16-year career in Tampa Bay.

The Roanoke native — along with his twin brother, Tiki — played for the Hoos from 1994-through-1996, and had 15 career interceptions, and was 1st-team all-ACC each of the 3 seasons he started for the Cavaliers. Barber becomes the fifth individual from UVa to be enshrined in the Pro Football Hall of Fame… joining former UVA standouts Bill Dudley and Henry Jordan, former coach Earle “Greasy” Neale along with NFL team owner Ralph Wilson, Jr.
