RICHMOND (WINA) – Governor Youngkin touted tax cuts and more education spending in signing the amended budget passed by the General Assembly last week. After months of Republican and Democrat haggling, the Governor said, “Today, we are boldly plotting that course when we put politics down, and pick common sense up, look at what we can accomplish together.

He noted a one-time tax rebate, increased standard deduction, and reauthorization of the state sales tax holiday — which will be the 3rd weekend in October this year — are part of tax cuts over the past two years totaling $5-billion.

And he celebrates $653-million more for K-though-12 education — with $418-million of that being for “high intensity tutoring” in helping students catch up from where they fell behind during pandemic school closures.
