SYRIA (WINA) – Just a week into the fall fire season, area firefighters have a brush fire on their hands. The state forestry department’s Greg Bilyeu says they’re on the scene of a 20-acre blaze in Madison County off Quaker Run Road at the border of Shenandoah National Park. They along with local fire crews and a U.S. Forestry Department crew are battling it in steep terrain, and it’s not contained.

Bilyeu asks during this fall fire season through the end of November, be very careful when burning yard debris or having an outside fire pit.

There is a report a lightning strike caused this fire, but Bilyeu says they have not determined a cause and an investigation isn’t happening until the fire is out.
