FARMVILLE (WINA) – The Farmville-area country artist whose viral video released by himself rocketed to #1 on the Billboard Hot 100 in just a few weeks has now signed with a label. Oliver Anthony has signed with United Talent Agency Nashville — or UTA… the same label of Lizzo, Cardi B, Guns & Roses, Post Malone, and the Jonas Brothers among others.
Anthony had reportedly earlier turned down an $8-million deal and there’s not much information why he’s signed now or with UTA. However, Variety Magazine reports UTA has veteran country singer Jamey Johnson, who’s appeared as a guest in his first gigs, and is apparently helping him navigate his new-found stardom.
Anthony has been concerned signing with a label might compromise the “everyman” lyrics he writes, but a UTA release says, “We’re honored to represent such an authentic artist, and excited to put together a global strategy to bring Oliver Anthony and his music to the people.”
This coming as the Farmville Herald reports a September 8 filing with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office Anthony has filed to trademark his signature song phrase “Rich Men North of Richmond” to be used on tools, hardware, brooms, glassware, and more.
