BATESVILLE (WINA) – One person had to be rescued in a lightning-sparked fire that badly damages a house late Thursday night on Burnt Mountain Road south of Batesville. First crews were dispatched around shortly after 10:30 last night to a rapidly growing fire at a 2-story home AT 6873 Burnt Mountain Road… just east of Stillhouse Creek Road. Crews arrived first about 15 minutes later to heavy fire conditions from the porch-kitchen area being fed by a propane gas line.

Family and a neighbor had already rescued a resident by using a ladder from a 2nd-floor window, and crews quickly confirmed no one else inside. Firefighters battled flames into the early morning, and the estimated loss is $120,000.

The single resident has been displaced and is being helped by family.
