NEWPORT NEWS (WINA) – In Newport News, Christopher Newport University has a new President. He’s retired Coast Guard Admiral William G. Kelly who was sworn in this (Monday) morning as the university’s 6th President on what they call the campus’s Great Lawn.

Kelly said he assumed the helm at CNU because the honor code everyone signs there has his same values. Another reason he took the job is that after the Coast Guard moved him and his family some 15 times over his career, they are not moving again.

He takes over from former U.S. Senator Paul Trible, who assumed the helm in 1996, led the school in tremendous growth, and stepped down just a month ago after staying for a transition for the new President.
