CHARLOTTESVILLE (WINA) – As students are on about a 2-week holiday break, WINA education specialist Lee Elberson says there are ways to keep them sharp over the time period. Elberson’s Clayborne Education group works with a number of students over the holidays and recommends three strategies.

He tells Morning News it’s important students are physically active over the break as exercise helps nourish the brain. It’s also important to balance rest and routine. There’s a lot of thought about sleeping until one and staying up late. However, he says keeping that schedule to what it is during school is important, especially as back-to-school time approaches.

Elberson also recommends doing fun education activities, especially as a family. He says it’s unrealistic that a student is going to study even a little bit everyday doing something like math problems over the break. However, it is beneficial to do things like go to a museum, or start reading a book together as a family. He says he knows one family that is doing DuoLingo over the holidays.
