CHARLOTTESVILLE (WINA) – Charlottesville City Manager Mike Rogers Monday night presented City Council a $226-million-plus city budget for 2024… up a little over 6-and-a-quarter percent from this year. Saying the budget has strong support for city schools, it includes financing the $72.8-million Buford School reconfiguration… and includes over a half-million for a Charlottesville High School roof.
The proposal also includes a 6% city employee pay raise. Rogers said the city has to do something about recruiting employees to work here, and also stop the hemorrhaging to other localities. He notes some localities are proposing more… such as Henrico County proposing 8.2%… but raises are needed to keep the city competitive.
Rogers’ budget maintains all the current tax rates.
He says the city budget staff has worked really hard to make the proposed budget available to the public online to for people to find anything they want to about the plan. It’s called the Budget Book, and city budget analyst Krissy Hamill demonstrated its use during the Council meeting.
