CHARLOTTESVILLE (WINA) – City Police Chief Michael Kochis and Commonwealth’s Attorney Joe Platania are non-attendees of the Thursday night community meeting, but Platania made clear to Morning News the situation at Charlottesville High School is the school system’s to figure out. While not specifically asked if the city schools complied with state code as a former Charlottesville Police safety coordinator contends, Platania says there are times law enforcement may need to be involved, but it’s not law enforcement who’ll resolve the issues.

He says if weapons are involved… or intruders or acts of violence with significant injury happen, the criminal justice system must get involved. However, the schools need to resolve the issues and Platania says Kenny Leatherwood as interim principal perfect leader to have at CHS now.
