Charge in death of Eldridge Smith upped to first degree murder

Tadashi Demetrius Keyes was originally charged with second degree murder.

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (WINA) – Tadashi Demetrius Keyes, a 38-year-old city resident initially charged with second degree murder for the Jan 28 shooting death of Eldridge Smith, has now been indicted for first degree murder.

Eldridge, 37, was a member of the B.U.C.K. Squad, an organization committed to ending violence in the community. The group says Smith was on his way to work when the shooting occurred.

Keyes was also indicted for use of a firearm in the commission of a felon.
