CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (WINA) – Angie Gunter, CEO of the Charlottesville-Albemarle SPCA, has been placed on administrative leave following an independent review.
The review came in the wake of criticism from people who have worked at the facility over the years, several of whom were let go after voicing their concerns. Eventually, people still employed joined the call for action, all alleging sub-par care for the animals and a toxic work environment.
The independent investigation by McGuireWoods came with recommendations for changes to improve both animal care and workplace culture.
On Friday, Gunter was placed on administrative leave effective immediately.
