CHARLOTTESVILLE (WINA) – The man accused of trying to abduct a UVa student north of Grounds Wednesday night is being held without bond. James Robert Allen had his first appearance in Charlottesville General District Court Friday morning on one count of abduction and one count of strangulation. He will have a court-appointed attorney, and will meanwhile remain behind bars until at least a December 14 preliminary hearing.

Police say a woman was dragged into a vehicle around 9:40 Wednesday night before the vehicle crashed in the 800 block of Cabell Avenue. Some neighbors came out of their homes during the commotion and the suspect fled. Detectives were soon able to identify Allen as the suspect and he was found and arrested the next day shortly after noon in Louisa County.
