CHARLOTTESVILLE (WINA) – The Charlottesville Radio Group’s semi-annual Broadcasters for Blood event is going on until 7 this (Monday) evening at the Doubletree Hotel on HIlton Heights Road just off 29 North. The American Red Cross Virginia’s Alexis Ennis says the goal is collecting 260 life-saving points of blood for area patients. She says this the 2nd-biggest need time of the year as we see the number of accidents increase during an active summer, and there are fewer donors as the large student donor base is out-of-town on vacations and other events.

Since May, Red Cross blood donor turnout has been lower-than-expected, so there’s a critical need for donors in July. There’s free food and beverages for anyone giving today, and all will also get a Red Cross dry bag while supplies last plus a $15 bonus e-gift card to a merchant of choice.
