CHARLOTTESVILLE (WINA) – The Virginia Department of Health has chosen the new Blue Ridge Health Department director from within. It is Ryan McKay, who has been with BRHD for some 10 years… most recently as District Administrator which oversees fiscal processes, grants, and facilities and resource management. He also becomes the first non-physician to direct the district.

Priorities in his new position include key projects to help deliver services to where people live. Also a former BRHD senior policy analyst, he looks to build priorities identified in the Map to Health report… one of which is helping support better access to transportation and broadband.

The General Assembly in 2022 removed the requirement that district health directors be physicians.
