ALBEMARLE COUNTY, Va. (WINA) – The Albemarle County Board of Supervisors will hold a special meeting on Friday, February 16, 2023, at 10 a.m.
According to a Wednesday afternoon news release, the board will go into a closed meeting to discuss plans related to the security of Lane Auditorium in the County Office Building on McIntire Road.
WINA News legal analyst Scott Goodman says to call a special meeting shows a definite need.
“My guess is that they have received some information about some type of threat that has been made sometime in the recent past,” he says, “or something was reported to the board about someone perhaps having a weapon inside the auditorium. So, my guess is that this is about discussion of perhaps setting up metal detectors or some other type of apparatus to ensure that no one has any weapons as they come into the auditorium, that would be my guess.”
The county does not say whether the board will issue a decision or take questions after the meeting.
