CHARLOTTESVILLE (WINA) – More than 60 teachers, administrators, academic coaches, parents, and community partners from across the Albemarle County school division have come together as an adoption committee to lead the way to the selection of the division’s next K-5 reading curriculum. County Schools’ Helen Dunn says this committee is in response to new state law passed by the 2022 General Assembly requiring school divisions to improve literacy outcomes for students… and Albemarle’s SOL scores have not been “up to snuff”.
She says the committee wants public input — which will include a number of focus groups of community members — as they examine the evidence-based track record of each program. The six in the past year have all been approved by the state education department.
