CHARLOTTESVILLE (WINA) – Albemarle County has begun a $100-thousand Community Climate Action Grant pilot program for community-driven projects designed to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. County Climate Protection Program Manager Gabe Dayley says the grants will be awarded in increments of $5000-to-$25,000 to nonprofits in a competitive process for “projects that tangibly advance the goals, strategies, and actions of the County Climate Action Plan. And, he says it makes make local climate action a more inclusive, participatory process.
Projects could be making buildings more energy efficient, installation of bike racks at popular community destinations, or making a community garden in an area where there’s not much access to healthy, fresh, affordable food.
The application deadline is April 30, and they hope to distribute funds late May or early June.
