STAUNTON (WINA) – The Augusta County Circuit Court trial for one of two people accused of killing 3-year old Khaleesi Cutthriel is underway. The five-day trial is underway for the 31-year old Travis Brown after a jury was chosen Friday. Augusta County Commonwealth’s Attorney Tim Martin announced charges more than a year ago against Brown and Candy Jo Royer — who were supposed to be looking after Khaleesi when their mother turned the child over to them when she went to jail in 2020. Khaleesi was reported missing by her mother in September 2021… and the last time the child was seen was February of that year.

Sheriff Donald Smith said the investigation led to the murder charges, although Khaleesi’s body has never been found. Charges of aggravated murder, felony murder, concealing a dead body, child abuse, child cruelty, conspiracy to commit aggravated murder, conspiracy to conceal a dead body, and conspiracy to commit child abuse.

Royer has a five-day trial on the same charges set for October 16.
