RICHMOND (WINA) – A Christopher Newport University Wasson Center poll commissioned by the Virginia AARP shows overwhelming support for a prescription drug affordability board. This past winter, the state Senate passed legislation creating one, but it was killed in a House committee. Virginia AARP Director Jim Dau (dow) says year-after-year they hear from Virginians who have both opted not to fill a prescription that was too expensive… or fear one day they’ll be priced out.
Dau says such an affordability board would be an independent body that reviews certain drug costs and set an upper payment limit for certain buyers. Dau notes the poll shows 85% of Democrats, 71% of Republicans, and 70% of independents support such a body… and they’re more likely to vote in November for a candidate who supports it.
Bedford County Republican Senator Bill Stanley and Centreville Democratic Delegate Karrie Delaney stand poised to introduce such a bill in their chamber next General Assembly session.
