Melvin Eugene Walker, 69, of Charlottesville, Va. went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, May 28,2024. He was born on August 24,1954, to Marie Walker Scott and Arthur Morrison. He was preceded in death by his brother, Arthur ”Bun” Walker and Mike ”Brick” Walker; two Aunts, Josephine Morrison and Bernice Taylor of Charlottesville, Va.
Melvin graduated from Lane High School in 1972 and over the years became a Charlottesville icon and avid Washington Commanders fan. He leaves a memorable legacy with a far-reaching positive impact in Charlottesville and beyond the Commonwealth of Virginia. Melvin was Owner-Chef of Mel’s Cafe for 39 years. He touched, moved, and hosted political figures, professional individuals, the homeless and everyday citizens to name a few. Melvin had a genius for creating delicious dishes that touched the soul. Through his big heart he shared his love of people and food with the community.
He is survived by his precious mother, Marie Walker Scott; two loving children, Jeremiah Walker and Emoni Brock of Charlottesville; two brothers, Greg Walker (Kim) of Richmond, Va. and Wesley Ransom (Linda) of Bowie, Md.; three sisters, Glenda Walker of New York, NY, Joyce Ann ”Honey” Walker of Richmond, Va.; and Theresa Rawlings(Calvin) of Charlottesville, Va.; an aunt, Louise Taylor of Charlottesville, Va.; and Amanda Brock (Mother of his children) of Charlottesville, Va.; and a host of grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
Charlottesville will never be the same without Mel and his award-winning cafe.
