It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Sylvia Vanessa Thurston, a beloved mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, daughter, and friend.
Sylvia peacefully departed on April 11, 2024, at the University of
Virginia Medical Center, Charlottesville, VA. Born February 15, 1955, in Louisa, VA, she was the daughter of the late Fred D. Morton and Dorothy L. Henson.
She was preceded in death by her former husband, Gerald Thurston; one grandson, Rahmean Rose Thurston; one sister, Delores Henson; and a devoted cousin, Darleen Henson.
She is survived by three sons, Orlando, Ramsey, and Jermaine Thurston (Nicole) of Charlottesville; one granddaughter, Jurney Michelle Thurston of Charlottesville; special niece, Danielle Folley (Cidric) of Charlottesville; three sisters, Claudia Payne (Marshal), of Charlottesville; Eunice Lewis (family) and Delores Thomas (family); two brothers, Jerry Henson and Willie Henson of Charlottesville; two nieces, Salethia Payne and Tracy Henson of Charlottesville; and two nephews, Devin Turner (Whitney) and David Henson (Paulette) of Charlottesville;
devoted friend and sister-in-law, Karen Thurston of Charlottesville; and a slew of family and friends who will miss her dearly.
Sylvia Thurston was a kind and generous soul, always putting others’ needs before her own. She was a devoted mother and grandmother to her children and grandchildren. Her love and compassion extended to all those who knew her, and she will be remembered for her infectious smile and warm personality.
Sylvia Thurston lived a fulfilling life and was a woman of many
talents. She had a passion for cooking and baking, and her homemade dishes were always the highlight of family gatherings. She also had a green thumb and loved tending to her plants, which were always in full bloom. She enjoyed reading books and solving crossword puzzles in her
free time.
