Theodore McNeil Thomas, Sr., affectionately known as “Mac,” peacefully passed away at the age of 95 on Friday, May 24, 2024, at his home in Ruckersville, VA. Born on September 15, 1928, in Earlysville, VA, he was the eldest of six children to the late Jasper Thomas and Effie Kennedy Thomas. Mac was preceded in death by his beloved son, Theodore M. Thomas, Jr. (Ted), his parents, and grandmother Mary F. Thomas.
Mac was baptized at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church in Earlysville, VA, where he served faithfully on the Trustee Board. In 2008, he was divinely guided to Emmanuel Christian Center Ministries Fellowship in Ruckersville, VA, under the leadership of Bishop Michael V. Jackson, Sr. and Pastor Louise Jackson. As a Senior Deacon, he was a devoted member, attending regularly until his health declined. Even then, he remained connected to his cherished ECC community through TV, Facebook, and phone conversations.
As a Master Brick Mason, Mac was recognized for his craftsmanship across Virginia. After retiring from brick masonry, he worked at Comdial in Charlottesville until he fully retired. In his leisure time, Mac found joy in fishing, hunting, western movies, and watching his wife enjoy baseball games.
Mac leaves behind a legacy of love and devotion, survived by his loving wife of 76 years, Marjorie “Bay” Gohanna Thomas. He is also survived by his children, Gregory R. Thomas, Sr. (Catherine), Gwendolyn T. Jackson (Donald), and Michael D. Thomas. His memory is cherished by his grandchildren, Marguerita Deese (Eric), Renee A. Brown, Jacquelyn B. Richmond (Michael), Katina Gatewood (Stanley), Lawanda Bowles, Joseph Brown (Ann), Latasha Dixon, Miguel Carey, Gregory Thomas, Jr. (Jaquinta); his twelve great-grandchildren, and six great-great-grandchildren. Mac is also survived by his sisters, Ruth T. Williams and Lizzette T. Williams (Walter), and brothers, W. Harrison, James, and Jasper Thomas, along with a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Mac’s life was a testament to his faith, hard work, and dedication to family. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
