Sylvester Reed Bright was born on October 19, 1958, to the late Charles Class, Sr. and Mamie Morton Bright in Charlottesville, Virginia. He transitioned from this life on Tuesday, January 23, 2024. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife Deborah P. Bright; his son Coty S. Bright; his honorary grandson Donovan J. Watkins; his sister Ethel Bright; and his brothers Charles C. Bright, Jr., Frederick Bright, Charlie Bright, and Michael Morton.

Sylvester was educated in the Madison County School system, where he excelled in football. He worked many years for the City of Charlottesville and several local construction companies until his declining health forced him into early retirement. Sylvester was a master storyteller and jokester. He liked to keep moving and staying busy. He loved and adored his grandchildren.

Sylvester left to cherish his memory his son Cory R. Bright, Sr.; his daughter Shanika Humphrey (Dustin Hall); his grandchildren Tacaryi, Cory Jr., and Kallista Bright, Charles F. and Gregory A. Bright and their mother Jacqueline Gibson, Cameron L. and Trevor L. Bright and their mother Jennifer Taylor, and Leilani and Dakota Turner; great grandchildren Kingston, Jasanii, and Reign Turner; his sisters Arlene B. Smith (Cecil), Bonnie B. Banks, Gwen B. Coger (Derrick), and Lynne Bright; his brothers Carroll, Ronnie, Joseph (Michelle), Moses (Hope), Wayne (Betty), and Jerome Bright; his sisters-in-law Gloria E. Linton (Allan) and Veronica P. Crawley; his brother-in-law Claude D. Phillips; and a host of other relatives and friends.
