Wesley H. Kilbrith Jr. passed away on May 18, 2024, under hospice care in Dallas, TX. Wesley was born on September 25, 1935, in Boston, MA, to the late Prudence Kilbrith and Wesley Kilbrith Sr. He was raised by his mother, Prudence, and preceded in death by his beloved wife, Rita Kilbrith, with whom he is now reunited.
Wesley grew up in and graduated from Rumford High School in 1953. Wesley joined the Army in September 1956 and was stationed in Germany as a guided missile crewman until September 1958. Wesley was honorably discharged from the Army Reserve in August 1962. Upon his return to the States, Wesley earned his Bachelor’s in Geology from the University of Maine in 1962 and was a proud member of the fraternity Phi Eta Kappa.
On June 6, 1964, Wesley embarked on a lifelong journey of love and partnership with Rita Laneuville. Their union, lasting over 52 years, was a beautiful testament to devotion. Together, they nurtured two daughters, who now carry forward Wesley’s legacy of kindness, integrity, and profound love for family.
Wesley moved his family to Charlottesville, VA, to start a job with the Department of Defense at the Foreign Science Technology Center, where he remained until his retirement 35 years later, in June 1994. Wesley and Rita remained in Charlottesville until she passed in 2014, at which point Wesley relocated to Dallas, TX.
Wesley’s enthusiasm for sports was infectious. He relished attending UVA football games and was a lifelong supporter of the Boston Red Sox and the Washington Commanders. His love for sports was a bond he shared with many, bringing joy and camaraderie to those around him.
Wesley is survived by his children, Lisa Kirby of Frisco, TX, and Linda Suter of Orange, VA, and three beloved grandchildren: Sydney Suter, Kent Suter, and Camryn Kirby.
In place of flowers, the family requests donations to the Alzheimer’s Association in his name.
