Julia Ann Harlow Pace passed away peacefully with her loving family by her side on Saturday, May 18, 2024. She was born on December 13, 1934 at the University of Virginia Hospital to Maurice Hansford Harlow and Daisy Murriel Goodman Harlow.

Married to the late Harry Hartwell Pace, Jr. on January 20, 1956. Married for 42 years when he passed away on October 21, 1998.

She was predeceased by her parents, husband, and her beloved daughter, Pamela Murriel Pace Arnold. Three sisters, Ruby H. Wilkerson; Hazel H. Weakley; and Lillian “Toni” Thompson, and one brother, Alonza T. Harlow; and three infant siblings, Maurice H. Harlow, Jr., Garland Phillip Harlow, and Lillie Mae Harlow. She was also predeceased by many faithful four-legged friends.

She is survived by one son, Harry H. “Corky” Pace, III., two daughters, Kim P. Vial, and her husband Ellis; Julia P. Fulton, and husband Michael. Grandsons Daniel C. Brewster, Tasker Hartwell Fulton, and Michael Tucker Fulton. One granddaughter, Nicole D. Lantz, and husband Cris. Great-granddaughters, Jasmine Marie and Danica Kristi Brewster. Great-Grandsons, Joshua Braiden and Grayson Caleb Lantz. And her beloved cat Kooper. Also survived by numerous nieces and nephews and their families. Her dear friends Shirley Durham Kile and Ann Clough.

She was an attended of Clark Elementary School, was girl’s marble champ. She was a graduate of Lane High School, the most athletic female. She played women’s soft ball for a league for years. Central Shenandoah Criminal Justice Training Center, one of the top ten in the class. Piedmont Virginia Community College with an associate’s degree in Police Science, graduated Cum Laude.

She was employed by the City of Charlottesville Police Department from 1973 until retirement in 1993. She was the first woman officer in the department in 1975. She went to college at the age of 41, while holding a full time job taking care of the home and family. Her faith was Methodist.

She was a daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt, cousin, and friend to many. She had been a room mother, den mother, Girl Scout leader and for many years served as an electoral board official.

Harry and Julia were avid campers, spending many weeks at Myrtle Beach, S.C and local campgrounds. She made lots of crafts and always decorated her home and camper on all Holidays. Her home was a showplace at Christmas and Halloween for many years.

She was a member of the Charlottesville Retired Employee Association and was secretary for several years.  She loved to read and kept a kindle in her hand or pocket at all times.

There will be a private graveside service. She will be laid to rest between her husband and daughter.
