CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – No. 6 seed Virginia (10-5) was one of eight men’s lacrosse programs selected to host the first round of the NCAA Tournament, the NCAA announced Sunday night (May 5). The Cavaliers will take on Saint Joseph’s (12-3) on Saturday (May 11) at Klöckner Stadium at noon on ESPNU.

Virginia makes its sixth consecutive appearance in the NCAA Tournament under head coach Lars Tiffany, also the program’s 43rd overall. Saturday’s contest marks the program’s 31st NCAA Tournament game in Charlottesville and 18th at Klöckner Stadium.

“We’re grateful for another opportunity to play in front of our incredible fanbase at Klöckner Stadium,” said Tiffany. “We know we face a tremendous opponent in Saint Joseph’s.”

St. Joe’s outscored Richmond 6-2 in the fourth quarter of the Atlantic-10 championship game, which the Hawks won 17-13 to earn an NCAA Tournament automatic bid. St. Joe’s enters Saturday’s contest on a 12-game win streak, which leads the nation, and are winners of their last six road games.

Virginia leads the all-times series with the Hawks, 2-0. Both regular-season meetings took place in 2015 and 2016 and were contested at Klöckner Stadium.

The winner of Virginia and St. Joe’s will face the winner of third-seeded Johns Hopkins (10-4) and Lehigh (9-6) in the quarterfinals at Towson’s Johnny Unitas Stadium on Sunday, May 19. Opening faceoff will commence at either noon or 2:30 p.m. on ESPNU.

Championship Weekend is set for May 25 and 27 at Lincoln Financial Field in Philadelphia, Pa. Both semifinal matchups will be broadcast on ESPN2 on May 25. The 2024 national championship game will commence on Memorial Day (May 27) and will air on ESPN.
