CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA (CVILLE RIGHT NOW) – The University of Virginia has terminated Pi Kappa Alpha’s Fraternal Organization Agreement a minimum of four years, and the Cavalier Daily reports Theta Chi’s and Sigma Alpha Mu’s F-O-As are temporarily suspended on hazing allegations. PIKE’s Executive Vice President Jason Buck in an angry message announced this is first time in UVa Alpha chapter’s history it’s been terminated.
Buck did not go through hazing details, but noted they will be listed on the UVA website for 10 years… and because of that they’ll be taking legal action against members responsible for the action. Theti Chi and Sigma Alpha Mu are suspended pending an investigation and can be restored if there’s no evidence of wrongdoing. If hazing is confirmed, the University can refer the case to the University Judiciary Committee or — as has happened with Pi Kappa Alpha — terminate the chapter’s F-O-A outright.
The incidents are not yet on the UVA website as Buck said they will be, but the University notes the “hazing misconduct report” is only updated before the beginnings of fall or spring semesters, or “typically within 14 days of a finding of responsibility for hazing behavior”.
