CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA (CVILLE RIGHT NOW) – Buford Middle School briefly went into indoor instruction while police responded to a report of a gun at New Pathways Academy, which is located at the nearby Cherry Avenue Boys and Girls Club.

The gun was spotted near the bag of a student who was sleeping in class, allowing staff and the two other students to safely exit the room.

Police responded quickly, secured the loaded weapon, and took the student into custody.

Students at Buford remained on their normal schedules since the incident was resolved before classes changed. Cherry Avenue Boys & Girls Club has canceled its afternoon programs.
