UNDATED (CVILLE RIGHT NOW) – The man who led police on a highspeed chase that shut down Interstate 64 for several hours on Wednesday night has died.
Kevin D. Taylor II, 29, of Charlottesville had taken off from a reported shooting in Waynesboro when he saw that police were on their way. The chase went through several jurisdictions before Taylor ran into the guardrails at mile marker 102 on eastbound I-64. An hour-long standoff was ended by a police-involved shooting, with Taylor taken to UVA Medical Center, where he later died.
No law enforcement personnel were injured during the incident. A firearm was recovered at the scene.
Virginia State Police is investigating the shooting. Once VSP completes its investigation, the findings will be turned over to the Commonwealth’s Attorney for final review and adjudication.
