Mika (Micah) George Meyers passed on March 29th, 2024. His extraordinary life began in San Francisco on June 27th, 1992. He has left a strong family legacy with his wife, Christin McDaniel, his daughter, Ashlynne Meyers, his brother Liam Rowland and mother Pamela Meyers. Also, Micah has left behind many extended family members throughout the country.
Micah and Christin’s invaluable friendships are sustaining the family, with unwavering love, dedication, solace and strength. These loved ones are insulating them from outside distress with their constant and loving presence, humor and shared stories about Micah. His powerfully supportive Firefighter Family in Albemarle County, VA, has shown such resolute devotion, generosity, empathy, compassion and tenderness, lifting the family up with their stories about their named Gentle Giant. All of this while they, themselves, are grieving their loss.
Micah’s early education took place in Marin County, CA, and he finished his schooling in Charlottesville, prior to joining Albemarle Fire and Rescue. His passions have always included music, card collecting, shared video games, sword fighting, all things Star Wars and spending time with his friends at The End Game. All of these activities allowed for his inner child to be revealed with his closest friends and family.
Micah was first introduced to Christin by a fellow gamer in CA in November, 2011. Their courtship began online until they met in person in February, 2012, after Micah flew to CA to scoop her up and return to Charlottesville with the love of his life, Christin McDaniel. They married August 22nd (the same exact date as his maternal grandparents who married in 1941, also after knowing each other for only a few short months). Ashlynne, their daughter, arrived in 2013, creating boundless joy and infinite love, enhancing his life forever more. His life flourished when he mariried and he took great pride in his family and in his role as provider, husband, father and brother and son. Micah’s family is steadfast, moving forward, about stripping the stigma, shame and misunderstanding of mental illness and suicide. This is a disease, not a flaw of character.
Micah George Meyers will be remembered as an honorable man with an extraordinarily sensitive soul and a large heart. He was magnanimous without a doubt. “Magnanimity (from Latin magnanimitās, from magna “big” + animus “soul, spirit”) is the virtue of being great of mind and heart. It encompasses, usually, a refusal to be petty, a willingness to face danger, and actions for noble purposes.”
Shine on, Gentle Giant!
