Catherine Elizabeth Byers Ross, 71 of Charlottesville, Virginia transitioned from earth to her Heavenly home Wednesday, March 20,2024, at University of Virginia Medical Center in Charlotesville, Virginia.

Catherine was born on January 2, 1953, to the late Henry Louis Byers of North Garden, Virginia, and Florine Bulah Kennedy of Charlottesville, Virginia. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her loving and devoted husband, Charles Ross; one daughter, Lakeisha Byers of Charlottesville, Virginia, three sisters Evelyn Byers, Olivia Byers, and Janice Byers, and two brothers, Henry Byers and James Byers.

Catherine was a graduate of Albemarle County High School in 1972 and later enrolled at Piedmont Virginia Community College to pursue her passion for criminal justice.

Additionally, she attended the Drewary Brown Program and diligently earned her CNA certification. She was employed at Comdial for 34 years. Post retirement from Comdial, she pursued a career in the health care field, while working as a CNA at Towers Nursing Home and The Martha Jefferson House. Catherine was truly passionate about helping others. Lastly, she worked at UVA dining services in food and nutrition. Catherine enjoyed hobbies such as crocheting, playing spades, watching westerns and Family Feud. She also enjoyed completing word search puzzles, reading the Bible, caring for her plants (named after her deceased parents), and spending time with her children and grandchildren. She was a faithful member of Zion Union Baptist Church for many years, where she faithfully served on the Usher Board for over five years. Catherine was also a longstanding daughter of Blue Ridge Temple #67 Rivanna Elks Lodge 195 of Charlotesville Virginia.

Beyond measure, Catherine was a devoted wife, mother, sister, and grandmother. She always believed in giving to others and doing what is right. Those left to cherish her memories are her children, Christoper Byers (Edwina) of Charlottesville Virginia, Diana Williams (Michael) of Charlottesville Virginia; sister Florine Jolly and sister in law Gloria Byers; four devoted granddaughters Lakiera Mills, Katelyn Breedan, Shadoures Henderson, and Kimora Williams, all of Charlottesville; three grandsons Mahki Washington, Melonte Washington, and Da’Vaughn Williams all of Charlottesville; two great-grandchildren De’Sequel Folley and Bles’Sing Breedan all of Charlottesville and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
