RICHMOND, Va. (AP) — Top Democratic Virginia legislators are launching counterprogramming to the broadsides Republican Gov. Glenn Youngkin has been lobbing at the spending plan. Lawmakers from the House of Delegates and Senate will hold public events around the state this week to tout the two-year spending plan they passed recently. Youngkin has said he hopes to avoid a veto but wants changes. Democrats are declining to start negotiations before April 17, when the Assembly meets next in Richmond to consider Youngkin’s proposed amendments to the budget and other bills. Lawmakers also signaled continued pessimism about the prospects for a top Youngkin priority, legislation to clear the way for a pro-sports arena in northern Virginia.
