CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA (CVILLE RIGHT NOW) – Albemarle fire says Piney Mountain is now 100% contained, and the Taylor’s Gap brush fire is 50%. Taylor’s Gap is 200-plus acres. The evacuation order was lifted around 11 last night and people could go back to their homes.

Same with Piney Mountain which is 100-plus acres. As of 9:30 this morning, crews were still actively working these scenes.

In Louisa County, fire crews are still on the scene of a 200-plus acre fire between Old West Mountain and Shannon Hill roads. That fire is 100% contained as of 11;30 last night, but not 100% extinguished. An emergency shelter opened overnight for people in that very woody rural area closed this morning around 9. The location while very rural does have a number of homes in the vicinity.

Fire departments in both localities say local emergencies are over, but advise there could be periods of smoky conditions and flare-ups around these vicinities.  So be aware and use caution when navigating.

Shortly after 11 this morning, fire crews were dispatched to a report of an apparent flare up of the Piney Mountain fire.
