CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA (CVILLE RIGHT NOW) – A gas leak inside the University of Virginia’s Observatory Hill Dining Hall on Friday morning forced authorities to evacuate the building, according to a UVA alert.

There were no injuries reported, and police and fire crews were at the scene at 525 McCormick Rd. UVA urged people to avoid the area. The gas company switched off the gas feed and dining hall was being ventilated, according to the school. The hall was expected to reopen by 11 a.m.

The first alert went out at 9:22 a.m., warning of police/fire activity at the site. The second, at 9:32 a.m., confirmed the gas leak.
