CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA (CVILLE RIGHT NOW) – Bryce Neely and Brayden Bachman each hit two-run home runs and Asher Sabom tossed two scoreless innings of relief as the Charlottesville Tom Sox defeated Waynesboro 5-2 on Monday at Kate Collins Field in Waynesboro, winning the Valley Baseball League’s South Division and advancing to the league’s championship series for the fifth straight summer.

After splitting the first two games of the best-of-three series, Charlottesville trailed 2-1 after four innings. But Neely, an outfielder from the University of Virginia, drove a 3-1 pitch in the fifth inning out of the park for a two-run home run that put the Tom Sox ahead, 3-2.

Bachman, an outfielder from East Carolina, added insurance with a two-run shot of his own in the top of the ninth inning.

Sabom made sure that held up. The right-hander from Chipola College threw two perfect innings of relief, retiring all six batters he faced, three by strikeout.

Charlottesville will face Winchester in the championship series. Game 1 is Tuesday at 7 p.m. in Winchester. Game 2 will be 7 p.m. at CHO Field at Charlottesville High School. Game 3, if necessary, would be Thursday at Winchester.
