CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA (CVILLE RIGHT NOW) — Charlottesville man Raymond Nowlin was injured in a shooting in the town of Grottoes Sunday night and was transported to UVA Health with non-life-threatening injuries, according to the Rockingham County Sheriff’s Office.
The incident was determined to be related to biker gang activity.
The Rockingham Sherriff’s deputies and Grottoes Police officers responded to the shooting at approximately 9 p.m. The incident occurred after a verbal dispute among numerous male subjects outside a restaurant escalated into a physical fight that led to multiple shots being fired at a vehicle which Nowlin, 44, was driving.
RCSO said in a release the vehicle’s occupants were involved in the fight to some degree, which had spread to the roadway at that point. Nowlin was struck once by the gunfire, but no other injuries were reported.
The shooter, along with several other unknown individuals, fled the scene on motorcycles.
The investigation is still ongoing by RSCO and Grottoes PD.
