CHARLOTTESVILLE (WINA) – One of Charlottesville’s most historic homes is on the market for $4.2-million. Stevens & Company-Crozet is the listing agent for Oak Lawn… the historic home built for Col. Nimrod Brabham in 1822, and purchased by James Fife in 1847. The home was built by master carpenter James Dinsmore, who also worked for Jefferson on Monticello, the Rotunda, and Pavilions III, V, and VIII on the Lawn.

Stevens & Company co-owner Ross Stevens describes the home as “a fine example of Jeffersonian Palladianism”. It’s on a nearly 5-and-a-quarter acre piece of land at 501 9th Street SW, and has 2 bedrooms, 2 baths, 5 fireplaces, original pine flooring, and two adjacent dog-leg staircases. He says the initial property was 338 acres.

The property is a Virginia Landmark and on the National Register. Stevens says they hope to find “a ready, willing, and able buyer who has a strong interest in historic preservation”.
