CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA (CVILLE RIGHT NOW) – The Charlottesville Media Group’s ‘Cares For Kids’ Radiothon raised $66,446 for UVA Health Children’s last week, funds that will support young patients and their families when they need medical care.
“That level of philanthropy coming into our hospital space has a really significant impact on an extremely local level,” said associate director of development Erin Chandler. “So, we couldn’t be happier.”
The two-day radiothon featured inspiring stories from families, UVA Health Children’s child-life specialists, hospital leaders and community members and was broadcast on Newsradio 98.9 and 1070 WINA, 97.5 3WV, Z95.1, 106.1 The Corner and 92.7 C-Ville Country.
This was the 11th year of the event. The 2025 version raised $60,752. To date, the radiothon has raised over $660,000 over 11 years.
“Year after year, this community continues to show up in an incredible way for the Cares for Kids Radiothon,” Charlottesville Media Group President and General Manager Garrett Klingel said. “The listeners who support our stations every day are unbelievably loyal, and that loyalty extends far beyond radio — it’s reflected in the way they rally behind important local causes, our advertisers, and our nonprofit partners. And there may be no more meaningful cause than supporting the children and families who rely on UVA Health Children’s. More than 40,000 children across Central Virginia visited UVA Health Children’s last year alone, and that number is always staggering to me. The funds raised through this radiothon help support families navigating some of the most difficult and frightening moments of their lives, and we’re honored to help make a difference alongside this community.”
Chandler said the money raised pays for patient services that “support physical, mental and emotional health of kids and their families that are going through very traumatic journeys.”
The funds will also contribute to “charitable care that helps us provide free and reduced cost health services in addition to lodging, food, clothing, and transportation.”
