CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA (CVILLE RIGHT NOW) – Virginia Gov. Abigail Spanberger has ordered state and local buildings to fly their American and Commonwealth of Virginia flags at half-staff on March 7 in honor of the late Rev. Jesse Jackson, the Governor’s office announced Monday.
“We honor his decades of service as a minister, community leader, and international civil rights leader,” the announcement said.
Jackson, a Civil Rights activist and politician who ran for President in 1984, died on Feb. 17. He was 84.
The South Carolina native was an ordained Baptist minister who rose to national prominence championing Black and LGBTQ issues and AIDs research.
