CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA (CVILLE RIGHT NOW) – The Charlottesville Police Department has arrested two juveniles, a 16-year-old and a 17-year-old, in relation to a shooting that occurred on Jan. 19 in the 700 block of Prospect Ave.

“This investigation reflects the relentless and thorough work of our detectives, who moved quickly and carefully to identify those responsible and bring this case forward,” said Chief Michael Kochis. “At the same time, it is deeply troubling and saddening that everyone involved in this incident is so young.”

According to a CPD release, officers responded to a reported shooting at 7:3o p.m. Upon arrival, they located a 17-year-old male Charlottesville resident suffering from a gunshot wound. He was transported to the University of Virginia Medical Center where he was treated for non-life-threatening injuries.

The charges against the 16-year-old are possession of a firearm by a person under 18, aggravated malicious wounding, maliciously shooting into an occupied dwelling, and wearing a mask to conceal identity.

The 17-year-old is charged with malicious wounding, maliciously shooting into an occupied dwelling, and wearing a mask to conceal identity.

The case is an active investigation and further charges may be filed.
