STAUNTON, Va. (WINA) – The Augusta County Sheriff’s Office clarified on Monday afternoon what forced the closure of the Augusta County General District Courts building earlier in the day.

A sign on the door cited “environmental concerns.”

At approximately 9 a.m., an elderly man left the courtroom for the restroom.

When the man returned, he tracked feces into the courtroom and other parts of the building.

Anyone who had matters before Augusta County General District Court or Staunton/Augusta Juvenile & Domestic Relations Court are asked to contact clerk’s office on Tuesday to reschedule.
