CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA – The City of Charlottesville announces the appointment of Lionel Lyons as the Deputy City Manager for Operations. Mr. Lyons most recently served as the Deputy City Manager for Development & Operations for the City of Petersburg, VA, a role he held for four years.

Mr. Lyons built an impressive public service career that spans 30 years, serving in multiple executive level positions across the City of Phoenix local government. Mr. Lyons is a graduate of The Ohio State University with a Master of Public Administration and North Carolina A&T State University with a Bachelor of Arts in political science.

The Deputy City Manager for Operations will oversee a variety of assignments relating to the City’s Capital Improvement Plan and special projects, organization-wide initiatives, and operational efficiencies. His portfolio will include Neighborhood Development Services, Public Works, Transit, and Utilities. Mr. Lyons will report to the City Manager.
