CHARLOTTESVILLE (WINA) – The National Weather Service has our area under a winter weather advisory until 7 Tuesday morning. Snow began falling just before daybreak, and it started covering some area roads by 6am… the farther west, the more snow accumulation. The advisory is for 2-to-4 inches of snow accumulating through portions of central, northern, northwest, and western Virginia.
A brief lull in the snow may occur around mid to late
morning, but snow will pick back up again this afternoon through tonight. The weather service advises to slow down and use caution while traveling. When venturing outside, watch your first few steps taken on steps, sidewalks, and driveways, which could be icy and slippery, increasing your risk of a fall and injury.
Public schools; local, state, and federal government offices; banks; and most private schools are already closed for the MLK Birthday holiday. Be prepared for a large list when entities are scheduled to open back up Tuesday morning.
