CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA (CVILLE RIGHT NOW) – Dallin Hall scored 20 points and had six assists and Jacari White came off the bench to add 15, including a thunderous, contested dunk, as No. 23 Virginia downed former ACC rival Maryland 80-72 on Saturday at John Paul Jones Arena.
Devin Tillis chipped in 10 off the bench as the Cavaliers improved to 10-1 under first-year coach Ryan Odom.
The game was a return to JPJ for former Virginia wing Elijah Saunders, who played for UVA last season. He transferred to Maryland after the Terrapins hired former Virginia Tech coach Buzz Wiliams away from Texas A&M.
Saunders finished with 10 points, one of three Maryland players to reach double figures.
Virginia has now scored at least 80 points in all 10 of its victories.
The game was on a decidedly more defensive pace in the first half. Virginia went to the locker room up 24-19, on pace for its lowest scoring game of the season.
UVA plays its final non-conference game Monday when it hosts American. It will open ACC play on Dec. 31 at Virginia Tech.
