CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA (CVILLE RIGHT NOW) – Former U.S. Attorney Tim Heaphy will be part of a new Washington D.C.-based law firm that includes Jack Smith, the longtime federal prosecutor tasked with investigating President Donald Trump’s role in the January 6 committee, Heaphy told Cville Right Now on Tuesday, confirming a New York Times report.
Heaphy, who has served as an assistant Virginia attorney general and as counsel for the University of Virginia, said the firm will open in January.
Smith, a former U.S. Attorney, is best known as the special counsel responsible for investigating President Donald Trump’s role in the Jan. 6 attack on the U.S. Capitol and Trump’s handling of classified documents.
