CHARLOTTSVILLE, VA (CVILLE RIGHT NOW) – A milestone in the Old Ivy Road Bridge reconstruction after contractors finished up building the north side of the bridge and shifted traffic onto it.

Traffic has been restricted to one lane to go eastbound during the entire project, and traffic had been driving on the south side while work on the north side was ongoing.

Traffic continues eastbound only on the new bridge while work crews switched to rebuilding the bridge’s south side.

Work is expected to be completed and the bridge open to two-way traffic in July.

This past summer, a truck hit the bridge jiggling some support beams, but the incident did not appreciably set the project back.
