CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA (CVILLE RIGHT NOW) – Former Democratic presidential candidate Pete Buttigieg, who served as President Joe Biden’s Secretary of Transportation, will join the party’s Virginia gubernatorial nominee, Abigail Spanberger, at a “Get Out The Vote” rally in Charlottesville on Tuesday night.

The exact location for the rally was not announced.

Spanberger, a former member of Congress and CIA case worker, is competing with Republican nominee Winsome Earle-Sears for the governor’s post. Spanberger holds a double-digit lead over Earle-Sears, a former Marine and the current lieutenant governor, in most polls.

Buttigieg shared a news article about the rally on social media, posting on X – formerly Twitter – that he was “looking forward to hitting the campaign trail next week with my friend (and) Virginia’s next governor.”

Buttigieg, a former Naval intelligence officer, served as the mayor of South Bend, Ind., from 2012-2020. In 2020, he became the first openly gay man run for the Democratic nomination to be president.
