CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA (CVILLE RIGHT NOW) – Add Charlottesville-Albemarle Airport to the list of airports that won’t be showing Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem’s politically charged public service announcement.

“Charlottesville–Albemarle Airport (CHO) is a non-partisan public facility, and we do not engage in or display political messaging of any kind,” CHO chief executive officer Jason Burch told Cville Right Now in an email Tuesday. “The airport’s focus is solely on providing a safe, efficient, and welcoming travel experience for Central Virginia and our passengers.”

Burch went on to state that “CHO is not showing any political or partisan videos, including the one referenced,” in Cville Right Now’s inquiry about the Noem spot.

Earlier this month, the Trump administration released the video, which blames the current federal government shutdown on Democrats, to be shown at TSA checkpoints.

A number of airports nationwide, including Richmond International Airport, reportedly won’t be showing the video, one that may violate the Hatch Act, which prohibits federal programs from taking partisan stances.

The federal government partially shut down on Oct. 1 when Republicans, who control the White House and both the Senate and House of Representatives, could not reach a budget agreement with Democrats. The shutdown has led to nearly 750,000 federal workers being furloughed.

In Noem’s video, she blames Democrats for the impact travelers might see at airport security checkpoints, saying “Democrats in Congress refuse to fund the federal government and because of this, many of our operations are impacted.”
