CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA (CVILLE RIGHT NOW) – Beginning Monday, Sept. 22, contractors for the Virginia Department of Transportation will begin work to repair a low-water bridge on Route 616 (Carpenters Mill Road) just north of the intersection with Route 607 (Matthew Mill Road) in Greene County.

Summer floods damaged the asphalt at the crossing located on Route 616 about 300 feet north of the intersection with Route 607.

Crews will remove the asphalt and replace it with a permanent reinforced concrete top surface.

Due to inclement weather forecasts and to ensure the new concrete surface adequately cures, crews need to extend the closure through Sunday, Oct. 5.

Route 616 will remain closed throughout that time period, including overnight.

A signed detour will direct traffic.

Drivers traveling west on Route 607 who wish to access property on Carpenter’s Mill  north of the work zone should continue west to U.S. 29 (Seminole Trail), turn right, then turn right again on Carpenter’s Mill.

Drivers traveling east on Matthew Mill cannot turn north onto Carpenter’s Mill during the closure.

They should access Carpenter’s Mill via U.S. 29.
