CHARLOTTESVILLE (CVILLE RIGHT NOW) – The Ivy Solid Waste & Recycling Center (ISWRC) will no longer accept cash payments beginning Feb. 2, the Rivanna Solid Waste Authority announced on Wednesday.
The decision comes after a review of the recycling center’s controls and procedures by the Rivanna Solid Waste Authority, which found that switching to a cashless system could streamline the wait process, reduce wait times and enhance overall security. After the switch, the recycling center will only accept debit and credit cards, as well as checks.
While the Rivanna Solid Waste Authority also operates the McIntire recycling center and the Southern Albemarle Convenience Center, both are drop-off facilities only for recyclables and tag-a-bag trash. ISWRC is the only facility that collects payments.
